چکیده

Abstract Side weirs are widely used in hydraulic engineering applications. The studies on the subject have been generally focused classical and labyrinth side weirs. However, same is not true for piano key (PKSW) a straight channel. weir (PKW) has high discharge capacity compared with In this study, characteristics of trapezoidal (TPKSW) channels were investigated experimentally. all experiments, nine TPKSW models studied extensively using De Marchi, Domínguez Schmidt approaches subcritical flow regime, Froude number range 0.12 < F1 0.87. results show that provides better performance to traditional rectangular triangular Specifically, 0.4 condition, efficiencies close each other. A more efficient than at larger numbers. 2.9 12 times higher weir. Scatter diagrams obtained CPW numbers various available literature. diagram generated by Marchi approach much less scattering, approaches. It determined TPKSWs an effective type lateral flows. Lastly, empirical equation was coefficient, which good agreement experimental data.

Experimental study on the effect of number of cycles on the hydraulics of trapezoidal piano key side weirs

Recently pianokey weirs become important in hydraulic structures. In this paper effect of the number of cycles on the flow of pianokey sideweir has been investigated experimentally. 45 experiments on single, two, four, six cycles pianokey and sharp crest linear weir on different heads (H/P = 0.3, 0.5, 0.65, 0.85 and 1) has been conducted. The input flow rate to the main channel was applied in s...

Numerical Analysis of Flow Hydraulic in Trapezoidal Labyrinths and Piano Key Weirs

The flow fields over a trapezoidal labyrinth weir (two-cycle) and a piano key weir were simulated using Flow3D, studying the impact of each model on the flow field in the weirs and the coefficient of discharge in comparison with the available experimental data. Moreover, the models were investigated experimentally in a 12.5 m long, 0.3 m wide, and 0.4 m high rectangular flume under clear-water ...

A laboratory investigation on the potential of computational intelligence approaches to estimate the discharge coefficient of piano key weir

The piano key weir (PKW) is a type of nonlinear control structure that can be used to increase unit discharge over linear overflow weir geometries, particularly when the weir footprint area is restricted To predict the outflow passing over a piano key weir, the discharge coefficient in the general equation of weir needs to be known. This paper presents the results of laboratory model testing of...

Experimental study of Hydraulic Flow of Circular Piano-Key Inlet in Shaft Spillways

One of the most important conflicts that shaft spillways have to deal with is vortex formation. This phenomenon leads to some unfavorable effects such as vibration in the body of structures, air entrainment and reduced overflow capacity of the spillway. Among all solutions for disrupted vortex formation, an innovative one called circular piano-key spillway, based upon piano key weir principles ...

discharge computation of trapezoidal side weir in subcritical flow regime using conventional weir theory

introduction: side weir structures are extensively used in hydraulic engineering, irrigation and environmental engineering, and it usually consists of a main weir and a lateral channel. side weirs are also used as an emergency structure. this structure is installed on one side or both sides of the main channel to divert the flow from the main channel to the side channel. lateral outflow takes p...
